Ironman Course Prep ride #1: check! PDF Print E-mail
Written by TriWisconsin Triathlon Club

The weather cooperated big time on TriWisconsin's ironman prep ride #1 on May 29th.   The temperatures topped around 85 degrees as over 50 triwisconsin members joined the summer-deprived cycling community along the Ironman Wisconsin course.

Nothing more can be said of the awesome help provided by board member Lauren Simpson and Triwisconsin Member Tom Flanagan.  The triwisconsin water/food stops in Mt Horeb (mile 30ish) and Walgreens (mile 60ish) provided a much welcomed respit for the all riders, not just Triwisconsin.

Triwisconsin members Mike Dean and Kevin (???) was also on hand to help make sure all the TriWis members are accounted for and made it through to the aid station.  This team is FANTASTIC!

Saturday morning bike ride information PDF Print E-mail
Written by TriWisconsin Triathlon Club

Saturday morning bike rides from the Southwest YMCA parking lot - wheels out at 8:23am.   Queue sheets are available on this web site by clicking here, and maps are available below.

Please note: unlike some of the other rides, there is no designated 'trailer' who will be staying back with the last rider.  If you are unfamiliar with the routes, you may want to make sure that you have a riding companion.

Courses: Pick the appropriate course for your ability and training plan. Start sensibly so you can complete the ride while challenging yourself yet not destroying your enthusiasm and/or confidence (we'd like to see all riders ride regularly and improve).

24 miles - Appropriate for relatively new bikers and those working themselves into condition for longer rides. Includes enough hills for training. Map and queue sheet available.  Map and queue sheet available. Map at
http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/wi/greenfield/682583123

30 miles - Similar to 24 mile route except adds about 6 miles on an out and back leg. Map and queue sheet available.  Map and queue sheet available Map at
http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/wi/greenfield/682672209

42 miles - Challenging course for the distance; great training ride. Most popular option but can be a bit too challenging for those without previous biking experience or limited fitness. Map and queue sheet available.  Map
at http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/wi/greenfield/657649318

50 miles - Route builds on most of 42 mile route but turns off of
Marsh/Center to pick up additional miles and rolling hills on Maple
(familiar from old 62 mile route).  Map and queue sheet available.  Map at
http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/wi/greenfield/658501905

63 miles - Challenging course but not quite as much as the 42 mile course;
good training ride with some great scenery.  Route goes through Mukwonago.
Includes gas station stop about halfway to attend to personal needs.  Map
and queue sheet available.  Map at
http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/wi/greenfield/682943288

64 miles - Challenging course but not quite as much as the 42 mile course;
good training ride with some great scenery.  Route goes through Lake
Beulah rather than Mukwonago.  Includes gas station stop about halfway to
attend to personal needs.  Map and queue sheet available.  Map at
http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/wi/greenfield/713807519

72 miles - Challenging route is basically the 64 mile route with an out
and back extension that adds some fun rolling hills.  Map and queue sheet
available.  Map at
http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/wi/greenfield/707403318

84 miles - Challenging route is basically the 72 mile route with a longer
out and back extension.  Map and queue sheet available.  Map at
http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/wi/greenfield/707578693

93 miles - Challenging course, basically the 84 mile course with a longer
out and back extension.  Map and queue sheet available.  Map at
http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/wi/greenfield/714208690

104 miles - Challenging course, 93 mile course with a longer extension and
an additional leg.  Map and queue sheet available.  Map at
http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/wi/greenfield/714691442

112 miles - Challenging course to and around Geneva Lake.  Some big climbs
and also some flats.  Varied scenery.  Map and queue sheet available.  Map

Cars and Bikes... PDF Print E-mail
Written by TriWisconsin Triathlon Club

Cars and Bikes are like Cake and Beer, they go well together but nobody knows when and how.  This upcoming biking season, please mind yourself and be aware of the road and those who use it.

The law is very particular about the relationship between the pedal power and the gas power, click here to read.  It all comes down to one simple thing:  BIKERS ARE SLOW TRAFFIC!  Therefore the same laws that govern farm equipment, road construction vehicles, or a sheperd with 15 cows are the same laws that govern a pack of HAMMER GEL-induced, lycra-wearing, Lauren Jensen-Wannabees.  We all know that we have to obey all traffic signs, traffic lights and laws.  The thing that is most confusing is when can we ride side by side and when do we need to be on a single file.

Here is a simple guideline.

1)   You are allowed to ride 2 across, on 4 lane roads.  Your pack is considered a single unit of slow traffic.  Although you are all ok (green), be mindful if the traffic gets heavy behind you and on the left lane.  If this happens, try to form a single line if and when it is safe.

2)  If there is a bike lane.  Everyone must be in it, it doesn't matter how many across, everyone must be inside the bike lane.  In this diagram, one rider (red) is not following the law.

3)  On a single lane road, you are ok to be riding 2 across unless impeding traffic.  In this diagram, since the car cannot pass the pack because of the double solid yellow line, the pack is impeding traffic.  The group must make ALL safe effort to start a single file and allow the car to pass.

4)  Similar to diagram 3, the pack is riding 2 across and is impeding traffic.  However, the car can pass the slow moving unit because of the dashed yellow line.  Although not required, the pack must make SOME safe effort and single file to allow the car to pass.

A safe riding to all!
